The 12th Annual Lennox Longboard Classic 2009

The Lennox classic 2009 was again a great success, blessed with perfect conditions all weekend, and great surfing on display by all contestants.

Media and Information Contest Report

On the weekend of 1st & 2nd of August the Lennox Longboarders club conducted the 12th Annual Lennox Longboard Classic 2009 at Lennox Main Beach in front attracting over 110 competitors covering 10 age & gender divisions. Competitors came from as far north as Bundaberg QLD, South Australia also a competitor from France.

The weekend brought beautiful sunshine plus with favorable winds most of the morning. The surf was exceptional a meter plus & perfect for longboards making for 2 days of perfection. With such good surf some outstanding longboarding was shown.  Saturday saw the first round heats run up until just after midday when some of the semi finals were held to make Sunday a more relaxed day.

Saturday night saw the festivities move to the Lennox Point Hotel at 7pm with a Mystery Final draw followed by competitor’s giveaways from a wide range of our sponsors as well as an Astro Surfboards longboard going to a much stoked Terry Kay a local from Lennox.  It was a Lion Nathan promotion at the hotel as Tooheys was on board as a major sponsor this year, and surf band Mal & the Longboarders played to a near packed pub full of visitors & locals

Sunday brought on some great consistent swell & off shore winds in the whole morning again resulting in some great longboarding from Glen Cunningham (Bundaberg) with radical turns in the O/30 & O/40’s division. The smooth styling with carving turns, walking & nose riding skills from Eric Walker (Ballina). Jackson Close (Currumbin) excelled in the old Mal & Open 9’ divisions and winning them both. Strong smooth styling from Kirsty Webster (Banora Point) saw her taking out the Open Ladies.  The standout Junior competitor was Roisin Coralan who was highest ranked Junior Lady,

Sponsorship was at a premium with strong support from Tooheys, The Northern Star media group, Sun Zapper Sunscreen, Stomp Surf Wax, the Lennox Point Hotel, Triple X Wetsuits, Australian Longboarding Magazine, Maddog Surf Ballina, Rip Curl supporting the Cadets & Junior Divisions. Others that continue their support are Dirty Dog Eyewear, Headland Beach Resort Lennox Head. Great support also from various cafes & businesses around Lennox, Ballina & further afield. All this support is greatly appreciated and assists in the promotion of this annual event

 With exceptional surfing in the old Mal & Open 9’ divisions, the preso was at the Lennox Point Hotel where the raffle that was conducted during the Classic was drawn after the presentation and the results are:

First Prize of an Astro Longboard   .....  won by Emma Black (who was one of the competitors & picked up the board.

Second Prize  2 nights Accommodation for 4 persons at the Headlands Beach Resort .. won by Stuart Cheval of Eltham.

Third Prize 72 Litre Tooheys Esky ..   won by Tom O'Dwyer of Lennox Head.
